Here in Western NC there is a big appreciation for nature and animals. One passion many in our community share is that of equestrian sports. This year Tryon, NC has the honor of hosting the FEI World Equestrian Games. As the games approach in 2018 we felt it would be appropriate to show how we have found many ways to reflect this passion through design and decor.
We have found many unique designs that incorporate aspects of equestrian sports and horses. Many include leather, buckles, horse images and plaid patterns. At the Fall High Point Market we saw equestrian touches in lighting, furniture, bedding and more!
We love coming up with unique solutions tailored to each client’s specific needs. In this instance we needed to bring new life to this sofa.
Instead of only adding new pillows, we also reupholstered the actual sofa back cushions. Then we added a fun assortment of custom pillows to add layers and maximum comfort.
Overall it makes the sofa much more inviting and is an easy way to add some more fun color to the room.
During our visit to High Point Market this year there seemed to be a trend that we saw in almost every show room that we visited. Acrylic. Chairs, tables, lamps, it was everywhere and we are loving it.
It is a material that is fun to mix and match with other textures and styles. For example these stools/ottomans with the fur seats. The contrast of the two very different materials, acrylic vs. fur, makes for a surprisingly attractive combination. Acrylic is a fun change from traditional metal or wood frames and bases. In terms of sustainability it is 100% recyclable and has a very long lifespan.
This retro-modern look goes well even in some of the more rustic settings that we are used to here in Western North Carolina. Here is an example of a bench that we did for a client that turned out very nice. It is the perfect fit to give character to an otherwise unused hallway space
We hope to see more of it soon and look forward to using it in future projects!
We thought the light fixture being used in this room could use a pop of color. The fabric and paint color inspired the use of green paint color to be used on the inside of the light fixture to add color (see is highlighted of the light fixture) Stay tuned for photos of the finished project.
Our client’s wanted a unique headboard for their master bedroom. Cheryl coordinated with Appalachian Hardwood to source a live edge slab for the project (photo A). Because of the extreme weight of the slab (over 300 pounds), custom brackets were needed to secure the headboard to the wall. Todd Miller, with Scream Hot Iron crafted the custom brackets and installed the headboard (photos B, C, D, and E). Bedding by Fino Lino and pillows by Surya complete the look(photo F).
Baldwin Art is one of Cheryl’s favorite art vendors. Baldwin’s great customer service includes bring the art truck to your door!
Cheryl, Emma, and our client’s browsed the art on the truck and selected pieces for their home. To see what Baldwin Art has available visit baldwinartgroup.com.
Our designer, Emma Kechter, traveled to Dallas to find out! Cardboard, wood and concrete are the three hot materials in lighting this year. While they are stylish, environmentally responsible, and a fabulous fit for the right space, here are some more amazing finds…
One of Emma’s favorite finds was the 3-Light Pendant Separator Kit from Maxim Lighting. Using only one junction box, three pendant lights can now be installed and grouped tastefully together! Another more abstract concept she found was this build it yourself Hive Pendant by Vermont Modern. Interlocking metal pieces can be assembled easily to create stunning sculpture that also acts as an art piece.
Cheryl’s pick this year are the Reflections Decorative Recessed Downlights, from Tech Lighting. These carefully crafted domes reflect the hidden ring of LEDs to deliver perfectly controlled indirect illumination. The play of light and shadow highlights the range of stylized dome designs while reducing the overall glare. They are available with or without a flange for traditional look or a smooth mudded-in look for a more contemporary style.
With so many options out there, selecting the right lighting can be a daunting task, yet critical in your overall design. That’s where we can help. Our designers specialize in lighting and are available to help you select the perfect fixtures!
