This year the ASID Carolinas Chapter Fall conference was held in Greenville SC. We were allowed a private visit of the Frank Lloyd Wright home, “Broad Margins”, located in downtown Greenville, SC. The structure consists of about 1900 square feet of living space in addition to a carport, tool storage area, and patio. This is one of less than 20 of Wright’s buildings in the Southeast and one of only two in South Carolina. The irregularly shaped home was built for sisters Charley and Gabrielle Austin and is of Wright’s “Usonian” Style. The structure itself is built into the side of the mountain. Throughout the house almost all of the furniture is of cypress and was specifically designed for the house. All of the hardware throughout the house is solid brass, and all of the doors, windows, and light fixtures were made on the site out of heart cypress.
